Here’s my first ever entry to The Clink Room. The Clink Room is run by the Jason & Casey the guys from Plan B Branding. Plan B has designed logos for tons of baseball teams both in the majors and the minors including all of the Philadelphia Phillies minor league affiliates and they do amazing work. They’re running a contest now called The Shadow League and the idea is to create a logo using one or two colors only and letting silhouette, shadow, and the color of the cap itself help define the logo.
Part of the idea is to come up with an original story and one of their suggestions was to take two animals and combine them - sort of like the mythic centaur or griffin, but with animals not usually combined. So, I created the story of a baseball franchise in Austin, TX. When the team was awarded to Austin, the rival Dallas owner made a statement that “Austin is more likely to see pigs fly than baseball succeed.” The owners of the Austin franchise took that as a challenge and built their team around the concept of pigs flying. They combined a razorback pig with a bat (bats are very common in downtown Austin, so how else would an Austin pig fly but with bat wings?) and the Austin Razorbats were formed. Here’s my logo and hat for the Razorbats. I had fun creating it; hope you like it!
The Grand Rapids Griffins hockey team - an AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings have been running a contest the past few years for a New Year’s logo / jersey. They wear these special fan designed jerseys for one night and then auction them off for charity. So, I decided to whip up a design for the contest. Here’s the result. Hope you like.
