LAUNDRY TOTEM - MATERIAL WORLD SERIES by David Welch
Friends of mine went through a horrible tragedy a year ago, losing their baby boy, Simon, just a few hours after he was born. They were able to spend some time with him but, sadly, all the love and medicine in the world weren’t enough to save him. There is a terribly high infant mortality rate in the world - even in a country as “advanced” as the United States.
Since losing Simon, my friend has met many people who have similarly lost their babies either through miscarriage or shortly after birth and has been moved with a friend of hers to start an outreach support group called The Solace Foundation. The Solace Foundation will be a non-profit that will provide support to parents that suffer the loss of a baby. A major part of what they will offer are care packages that parents can take home from the hospital or doctor’s office.
My friend asked if I could work on a design for a logo for The Solace Foundation that they could put on the care packages. Of course, I was honored. I came up with a few.
The first I wanted to use blue and pink, angel’s wings, a heart, and baby footprints on the heart to signify that although gone from this world far too soon, the baby will forever be in the hearts and his/her parents. My friend also suggested that they liked the idea of using butterfly imagery - as many parents who lose babies see butterflys as symbolic and also liked the idea of using light green as it is seen as a comforting color.
So, here are a few of the logos I presented her with. I hope that she likes them and would be honored if she chooses to use one of them for her non-profit.
